ADVANCING GOD'S KINGDOM SHARING GOD'S LOVE BUILDING GOD'S CHURCH

LET THE WHOLE WORLD KNOW

Study on the Godhead
Justin Church | June 5, 2016

Throughout the ages, it has been understood, "Hear O Israel, the LORD our God is one LORD." (Deuteronomy 6:4)  Every Biblically-based Christian believes in a monotheistic God.  Broken down, monotheistic means "mono" or "one" and "theism" or "belief in God."  Every Scripturally sound believer understands there is only one God.

Any contradictions to this Biblically rooted theology is pure apostasy.  Which is why one must be careful not only in belief, but communication of said belief.  We must "study to show ourselves approved." (2 Timothy 2:15)  And must never forget that God's "people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge."  (Hosea 4:6)  If you believe that willful ignorance will safeguard you from hell, you are sadly mistaken.

Your perception of God and the Godhead is vitally important, as your understanding will emphatically shape your entire outlook on theology.  Contrary to anything you have heard, the Godhead is not a mystery to those who believe.

Colossians 2:6-9
"2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.
5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest any man spoil you though philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9 For in him dwelleth all th
e fulness of the Godhead bodily."

Throughout history and the pursuit of God, with or without good intentions, there have been found many forms of false teachers, false prophets, and heretics flooded in apostasy. Thanks to various councils, such as the Council of Nicaea, the agenda of men developed heresy and turned it into the very thing it was never meant to be - mainstream belief.

2 Peter 2:1-2, 17-19
"1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that brought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption:
for of whom a man is overcome, of the same he brought in bondage."

Below you will find a list of popular, yet heretical [extra-Biblical] teachings of the Godhead that are gravely damning the body of Christ today.  It has been simplified for understanding at all ages; however, realize wrong is wrong.  "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil;"  (Isaiah 5:20)

Keep in mind as you read - if it cannot be found in the Bible, then it has no place in Biblical teaching or belief.  And anyone that tries to supersede or graft teachings of man into Scripture and/or consider them to be doctrine, regardless of the motive or understanding, is in fact a heretic.  All we can do is tell the Truth, according to God's Word and not of our own.

Dualism:
Belief in two gods.

Trinitarianism:
Belief in three gods - unified only in divine purpose.

Pantheism:
Belief everything is god.

Atheism:
Belief there is/are no God/gods.

Agnosticism:
Belief God can neither be proven, nor disproven.

Humanism:
Belief only we can better ourselves; regardless of God's existence.

Universalism:
Belief everyone goes to heaven.

Modernism:
Disregard for "outdated" doctrine, with intent to redefine Scriptures to adapt to current patterns of living, regardless of original meaning or context.

Antinomian:
Belief grace overrides obligation to observe moral law.
[Also known as "hyper-grace"]

Nihilism:
Complete rejection of absolute truth, moral law, and biblical principles.

Hedonism:
Belief God's purpose is to cater to our needs by "fighting on our side;" as we are entitled heaven regardless how we choose to live.

Emotionalism:
Justification that feelings and emotions provide evidence of being in God's will, regardless if one's life is contrary to the Word of God.

Pelagianism:
Belief original sin had no affect on humanity and our own will is enough to earn salvation by living a holy [sinless] life as required by God, without reliance of His Spirit operating in one's life.

Donatism:
Idea that clergy is sinless [having never sinned] in order to obtain office, effectively pray or communicate the Word of God.

Marcionism:
Belief Jesus was not the God of the Old Testament; rather, a greater, more loving and forgiving God of the New Testament that replaced the "evil" and "tyrannical" God of the old.

Arianism:
Belief Jesus, the Son of God, is separate from God the Father, and therefore, as a created being beneath the Father, though still part god.

Unitarianism:
Belief Jesus was our savior and inspired by God; however, could not be God the Father, in turn could not be God at all.

When the Godhead becomes skewed - dividing the Father, from the Son, from the Holy Ghost - refusing to acknowledge they are one and the same: Jesus; then, according to Scripture,  while they claim to know God, they glorify Him not as God, and become unthankful, and vain in their imaginations, creating a false god in their own image at best -  or worse, a false god and/or multiple gods full of half-truths] and their hearts become darkened, committing sins and convincing others to do the same.

Romans 1:18-21, 32
"18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them."

The Bible declares and dictates that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess the name of Jesus.  (Romans 14:11)  He is the full embodiment of the Godhead.  (Colossians 2:9)  He is the fulness of God, incarnate, and the only One whom can reconcile us to Himself.  Jesus alone is God, wrapped in flesh: The very image of the invisible God.

There is power when we invoke the name of Jesus, which brings forth: Healing, strength, wisdom, comfort, peace, deliverance, hope, forgiveness, joy, righteousness, authority, and salvation.  And we lose it all, including salvation, when we divide God into something He is not.  Three separate gods, unworthy of having no equal.  The Jews sought to kill Jesus, because He made Himself equal with God.  (John 5:18)  Either He is God alone, or no god at all.
